Back in May 2012 I talked with 29 year on the job cast member, yes I said 29 years working in WDW, about what to expect for the upcoming Test Track 2.o.

She shares some of what she knows. She also shares one of her favorite overlooked sites in Epcot’s Future World.

Ok the food may not be African. But I did eat it in Africa! Did you know that Tamu Tamu in the Africa section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom sells breakfast? I didn’t until I happened to walk by on park opening on my way to get a Fast Pass to Kiliminjaro Safari.

I have to tell you that this was my favorite grab and go breakfast so far. I had an excellent egg and ham sandwich made in a fold over style naan or Indian type buttery pita bread. Nice orange juice to go with it, sounds of an African band and great architectural setting. I was good to go. What a great start to the day.

What is this drink and where can you find it?

This is my favorite drink from my last trip. What is it? Look at the rim of the glass. Yes, it’s a margarita. I kid you not, this was not only the best drink of my last trip, it was the best margarita I’ve ever had. I don’t know if it was a fluke. I only ordered one. Maybe that one was made really well. Or maybe another bartender can’t make it as good as the one I had. I don’t know. You’ll have to order one and let me know.

It is a Wildberry Margarita. It’s made with Patron Silver Tequila, “Monin” Wildberry, Freshly Squeezed Lime Juice and Sweet and Sour Mix. I had it with salt on the rocks. I wish I could put it in your mouth right now. Wait that sounded bad. I wish you could taste the awesome fresh flavors of this perfect, refreshing margarita. Better.

Where can you get it? The Wave at The Contemporary Resort.

I was solo so I took a seat at the bar. I also ordered some food. I enjoyed eating and drink at the bar so much that I would do it again. Even with friends. It was fun talking to the bartender and other guests. I also got to eavesdrop on some conversation between off duty cast members. Did he really just say that?

Xochimilco in Mexico City, Mexico is where you’ll find these colorful boats or trajineras. They are a testament to the spirit of the city.

The Mexico Pavilion in Epcot once represented Xochimilco with a replica of one of these boats. It rested ashore the rocky outskirt of the former Cantina de San Angel. It’s name was “Bonita Verdad” or “beautiful truth”. In place of revelers, sea gulls laid claim to this miniature party boat. Inside was a stash of clay jugs and pots on which they made their home, jumping in and out, walking around outside of it in the sun then huddling together inside enjoying the shade. The boat was one of those little things that made no difference to Disney’s fiscal bottom line but that as guest I really appreciated. It was an example of story and detail as only Disney does it.  So when it disappeared I kind of hoped it would return in some form or another. With the building of the new Hacienda de San Angel restaurant, the rocky shoreline disappeared and with it went the Bonita Verdad.

But not so fast. Maybe it still exists in a different location and in a new form. Is Donald Duck hiding something? Did Donald get forced out of Toontown when it closed only to force the sea gulls out of their little boat on the edge of the Mexico Pavilion in Epcot?

Here was the Bonita Verdad as it appeared on the former shore of the World Showcase-

I took a ride on The Gran Fiesta Tour starring Donald (and those other two lesser known Caballeros) after the grand opening of Hacienda de San Angel.  I had never noticed before but toward the end of the ride there is a familiar little boat. It is filled with pinatas and an assortment of sombreros and musical instruments. This is Donald’s Boat. The only thing that is different from this boat and the Bonita Verdad is all of Donald’s hoardings. Well he used to have a BIG boat.

Fill, drink then fold.

If there is one thing you must do in the hot, humid Florida heat-it is to stay hydrated. Walt Disney World gets HOT and it is not an option, you must drink plenty of water.

I’ve learned that lesson over the years. There were times when I neglected to drink enough water in the parks while running on adrenaline scrambling to hit all of the attractions I could. Now I make sure to take my time and drink a bottle of water BEFORE I feel thirsty, tired, flushed, dizzy or any other sign of dehydration.

At $2.50 per bottle, I could easily spend $10-$20 a day in Disney Parks  just on water.

This vacation I’m taking a reusable, collapsible water bottle with me. Vapur “the anti-bottle” makes two sizes- 0.4 and 0.5 liters water bottles. The bottles are BPA free, freezable and come with a clip to attach to a belt loop. (No thanks, clip is coming off).  When full they are able to stand and when empty can be folded and put in a pocket. Check out Vapur to order direct or to find a store located near you. If you’re in NYC the Museum of Modern Art Design store also sells one made special for MOMA.

I just bought that one. At $9-$15 it will pay for itself in a day. I am looking forward to using it on my next visit to WDW. (Sept-Oct 2011). I’m hoping that it fits comfortably enough into my pocket to not be a distraction. I just have to find enough quick serve restaurants that have fountain soda machines where fresh water is accessible to guests to fill bottles. For those who don’t know, there is a button on the soda machines located near the spout that dispenses water (that doesn’t taste like chlorine). It is free to use.

As a result you’ll have more energy, help save resources and have more money for fun at WDW.

Every Disney Park has designated cooling areas. Use them!
